About Us

Idaho Artists

Many people don't know much about Idaho except that it's famous for potatoes but Idaho stretches from Canada to Nevada, and encompasses the western side of the continental divide of the Rocky Mountains. Rivers, mountains and farmland dominate the state's landscape. The panhandle has emerald green hillsides, timbered mountains and pristine lakes. Central Idaho is covered with jagged peaks. The Snake River Plain, with its wide open vistas, irrigated farm lands and vibrant cities forms the character of Southern Idaho.

Idaho's history lies with its native tribes, the Lewis and Clark Expedition and determined pioneers on the Oregon Trail. With spectacular scenery in every corner, it's no wonder that Idaho's artists are so inspired. From paintings, pastels, basketry, photography, textiles, sculpture, pottery, fine jewelry, and crafts you'll find a plethora of the best artists the country has to offer!

Let Idaho show you what we have to offer by using our Artist Search page to find the art and artist you're looking for!

Boise Art Museum

Boise Art Museum

BAM's Permanent Collection of 2,300 works of art focuses on 20th century American art with a long-standing emphasis on artists of the Pacific Northwest, American Realism and ceramics. BAM's Collection also includes a survey of European and non-Western artwork designed to provide a broader context for the overall Collection. The Permanent Collection is exhibited thematically, with current exhibits Elegance of Form and Contemporary Northwest Art.

Building on its holdings of works by American and Northwest artists, the Museum has acquired a substantial collection of contemporary and historical ceramics through the gift of 165 objects from John Takehara, a respected ceramist and long-time professor of ceramics at Boise State University. To augment the collection, the Museum has added works by well-known regional ceramists such as Larry Elsner, Jim Romberg, Anne Hirondelle and Frank Boyden, as well as American ceramics pioneers Peter Voulkos, Rudy Autio and Robert Sperry.
